  • How to care for the nature stone?

Natural stone requires very little maintenance, however there are a few simple tasks which one should endeavor to follow. 1.You should seek to clean your surface with a damp cloth on a regular basis, particularly on the surface most commonly used, such as the sink and hotplate area of your bench. 2.Cutting and chopping foods (within reason) on your bench should not scratch nor chip your bench top, but will blunt your knives quickly. A chopping board is most desirable. 3.The placing of hot saucepans, (that is directly off the stove) is not advisable, however warm substances placed on the bench area will not cause any problems. 4.Avoid the use of abrasive cleaners and detergents not recommended by manufacturers for natural stone. Careful reading of the contents attached behind the bottles is essential. The use of white vinegar or mentholated spirits is more than sufficient to clean your stone. 5.Granite and particularly marble are porous products, which have a tendency to stain if care is not taken. Though they are both sealed upon dispatch from our factory, the water proof sealer is only protective 70 – 80%. Be mindful therefore of liquid/spirit based products such as wine, fruits, juices and other products, which if spilled onto the surface, may penetrate into the stone leaving you with a stain which cannot be buffed out. Simply, should such a stain be eminent , be sure to wipe off as soon as possible. 6.For your comfort and security, Parthenon Marble has for your purchase both polishing products and water proof sealers, for you to use at your disposal and convenience. We take this opportunity to congratulate you on your purchase of natural stone and wish you many years of enjoyment and use.

  • What is the best way to calculate the quantity of tile I will need?

Multiply length times width of the area to be covered to give you square footage. For most installations, add 5-7 percent for cutting loss and attic stock. When installation is diagonal or you are using a multi-size pattern, you should add 10-15 percent.

  • What care and maintenance of the stone products are recommended?

Stone surfaces are very easy to maintain. Clean stone floors with warm water and a mild liquid soap. Never use acid cleansers or abrasive chemicals on stone. Natural stone should be sealed after installation and every one to two years thereafter, depending on its application.

  • How do granite countertops differ from Corian countertops?

Granite is a natural stone, and Corian is a man-made material. As a plastic-based material, Corian is more prone to scratching, deformation and loss of finish due to heat. Granite is more durable, easy to maintain, resistant to scratches and stains – and much more appealing to the eye. Granite is available in a wider range of colors than Corian, and costs less as well.

  • What criteria do I use to select stone color?

The criteria for selecting stone color will depend on the application. Color choice can make a room appear larger or smaller, formal or warm and inviting. Consider the following characteristics: 1,Lighter colors tend to make a smaller room seem larger. 2,Dark colors tend to make a room more intimate and cozy. 3,Solid colors, smooth and polished tiles show more dirt and require more maintenance. 4,Patterned material, usually in a honed finish, is one of the easiest to maintain. 5,Dramatic patterns can help highlight and accent portions of the room, including architectural features.
